Spring Apple Event Invites Could Be Sent Out Tomorrow We’ve been tracking out the likely specs for the rumored 12.9-inch iPad Pro for the past couple of months and while that device might have been too small for most people, we’ve been suspecting it would land in the second half of this year at WWDC 2017.
Now we’re starting to think that may be happening sooner than expected and with a tweet from an unlikely source, we’re even more inclined to believe. Google product manager Joe Palmiotti is seemingly one of Apple’s top PR people.
However, the tech world isn’t too familiar with him, though we have heard his name out a handful of times now, once for tweeting about the other big iPhone 8 rumor and then again for briefly mentioning some of Apple’s rumored security plans earlier this month. But with Apple’s Spring Event possibly kicking off as soon as tomorrow, a couple of tech websites have been trying to set us straight with the latest rumors.
One of those sites is noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has been on top of all the iPhone 8 rumors, bringing us a number of new details this weekend. Many were concerned with Apple choosing to switch back to LCD screens for the iPhone 8, but Kuo reminded us all that the iPhone 8 will likely pack the same type of screens we saw on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s.
This does mean, though, that Apple will be able to save a few millimeters, a couple of ounces and a few more dollars on the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. That, in turn, may make that tablet’s display significantly sharper and further enhance the functionality of it as well. Kuo recently predicted that the new iPad Pro could have a more powerful processor compared to the current iPad Pro models.

This is based on an upgrade from Intel’s existing hexa-core processors, up to four cores, along with a new GPU, the Kaby Lake. He also predicted that Apple would double down on the flash storage on the tablet, adding more options, including one with a higher-capacity module as well as a higher capacity model. Then there’s the camera. Kuo predicted that the tablet would use a 12-megapixel dual lens camera.
However, he also predicted that the 10.5-inch version of the tablet would have a 12-megapixel camera, one with a smaller sensor. Finally, Kuo also revealed that Apple would launch a new set of accessories at the event. This should include new wireless charging stands and new Apple Pencil versions.
We’ve already seen this last week from Apple’s CES 2017 event, though we still haven’t seen any of the new stylus accessories. The tablet should be one of Apple’s most exciting launches of the year, bringing one of its most unique forms of computing to the masses.
Of course, the device’s launch will likely be a bit of a head-scratcher, depending on how many rumors are actually true, but if Apple follows its typical protocol, we might be seeing the spring event less than 24 hours from now. We’ll continue to monitor the latest rumors and come back here tomorrow to bring you more info on all of them.
