Everything We Expect to See From the Apple Event on March 8

In the meantime, there’s some questions we have regarding the impending launch of the Apple Watch, like how deeply is it going to push into health? What will its adoption and availability be like? What features and apps will it add?

But first, there’s one more thing to wonder about: What new wearables are we going to see from Apple this week?

We’re expecting three things:

  • An updated version of the Apple Watch
  •
  • An updated version of the AirPods
  •
  • An updated version of the Apple Watch, internally referred to as the “Series 3”
  •
  • What will the Apple Watch Series 3 Include?

It’s widely thought that the Apple Watch Series 3 will be like all the Apple Watch models, and include Apple’s new S3 chipset, new sensors (like a better accelerometer, barometer, and gyroscope), and a new software design.

  • Not much else is going to change in terms of physical features.
  •
  • This model will also be faster.
  •
  • Apple is said to be adding NFC on the Apple Watch Series 3.
  •
  • What About the AirPods?
  •
  • The AirPods are one of the most discussed products at the event (as it’s the only Apple product without a launch date).
  •
  • While we’re not expecting a huge update (there’s been talk of upgrades to battery life and improved noise cancellation), some are expecting a slight bump in the price.
  •
  • It’s also very likely we’ll see a new charging case.
  •
  • After months of waiting for a device that “must be a breakthrough” to arrive, some consumers are expecting big improvements, while others simply want a discount.
  •
  • On the other hand, all we expect to see is a slight increase in price.
  •
  • Will There Be Updates to the Mac or Apple TV?
  •
  • We won’t see much for the Mac, but we are expecting some software updates.
  •
  • There are also rumors of an Apple TV 4K at the event, but that’s something we would not expect until some time next year.
  •
  • But How Much Will the Apple Watch and AirPods Cost?
  •
Yes, we know what people say. The Apple Watch is the most expensive piece of hardware the company makes, and there’s a good reason for that: It’s a very high-quality device. It’s made out of stainless steel, which isn’t cheap. It has a sapphire crystal display, which is still pricey. It has two versions: One with a bunch of sensors, one without. It’s not going to be cheap, and it’s one reason it’s very likely we won’t see the AirPods and the Apple Watch for much cheaper than their current prices.

We’ve seen rumors of a $150 price cut for the Apple Watch and an $80 price cut for AirPods. While there are no guarantees, we fully expect those price cuts to take place this year.

And Yes, Some People Would Probably Buy Them Even If They Were Cheap

We’re not discounting the idea that there will be people who will buy the new models of both of these devices even if they were cheap.

Maybe they would buy them and have the price increase push their decision to buy another brand of headphones (for example, there’s the problem of the iPhone earbuds being expensive, and then the AirPods, even if the price was low, pushing them to a new brand).

If the price of the Apple Watch and AirPods were reduced, perhaps those buyers would simply keep on buying AirPods from the Apple Store, regardless of price.

Another reason to expect an increased price would be that these devices are new and so there’s more demand for them.

But there’s also a certain risk that people who aren’t buying now could be scared off by a cheaper price.

Conclusion

In short, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the price of these new products increased slightly.

We can also be quite confident that this isn’t the last upgrade for these products.

While Apple didn’t mention much about the updates for the Apple Watch, and AirPods received no updates, the fact that we’re even thinking about the future of Apple products is good enough reason to think that Apple is continuing to improve these products.

We just need to get through this week, then we can look forward to seeing what’s next.

We’ll be waiting.
